Reconciliation Week 2023 – Be the Voice for Generations
Using Adam Goodes’ book, Somebody’s Land, as a foundation for truth telling, together we had a yarn about whose land we are on. Through this, children understood the true meaning behind the acknowledgment of country they say each day. The colour yellow which we wore this week represents the sun, the giver of life. Easter Photo Booth
The children and outdoor learning educators recycled voting booths from the recent election to create a beautiful Easter photo booth experience for the children and staff to enjoy in the final week of Term 1. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the final week of term and thankfully the weather held out on most days to allow the children to enjoy this display with their friends.

Bush Salad
There has been an increasing demand and interest for tasting the summer harvest from our lovely outdoor area. So far, the children have tasted, peaches, apples, mint, salt bush and native currents from our edible garden and we were also able to harvest bananas in the last week of Term 1. Children have been sharing a lot of knowledge and interest in tasting and using language to communicate the sensory aspect of the various tastes they have been exploring. Harmony Day 2023
Hills Montessori celebrated Harmony Day at school this week on 21st & 24th March, students, staff and families were all invited to get involved. Harmony Day is a celebration of diversity, multiculturism, inclusion, belonging and respect for all members of our community. Children and staff were invited to wear clothing that represents their heritage or orange as this colour symbolises communication and the encouragement of respect. We also had a variety of cooking, language and musical experiences throughout the classrooms and the children enjoyed a variety of creative options during the event.

Introducing Storypark Manage
We are excited to announce that we are transitioning to Storypark Manage to help become a more sustainable school. Storypark Manage will be connected to our families existing Storypark for Families app. Throughout term 2 each classroom will move onto the Storypark Manage system and families will now be able to sign their children in and out of the school each day electronically via the iPads at the entrance gates and make casual before and/or after session care bookings within the system.

Book Week
Hills Montessori celebrated Book Week at school this week from 21st - 25th June, students and staff dressed up as characters from their favourite books. We had where’s Wally, the rainbow snake, thing 1 and thing 2, little Miss Whoops, and giraffes can’t dance. Thanks to everyone for your participation. We managed to raise over $140 to go towards buying books for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

Fire Engine Visit
The kindergarten class had a visit from Officers from the Castle Hill Fire Station on 3rd June. The class learnt about fire safety, and enjoyed the opportunity to use the firehose and take a look inside a fire engine.

Frog Pond
A HUGE thank you to Saumya for organising and the ladies from Bunnings Dural, Castle Hill and Rouse Hill for supplying and installing our new frog pond. I am sure the children will be waiting and watching everyday for some frogs to come and live in this beautiful pond.

Kindergarten High Tea
On Friday 5th March, Kindergarten held their annual High Tea for their parents. They were involved in the whole process from baking the scones and muffins to inviting their parent in and serving them. There is a great deal of social grace and courtesy lessons that they learn from inviting someone in, showing them to their seat, ensuring they have a drink and something to eat and then asking if they would like anymore. The afternoon was enjoyed by all, ending with the children showing their parent around the classroom.

Hatching Chicks
In March this year the school enjoyed participating in the Hatching Chicks program. This program provides a hands-on opportunity to learn about the life cycle of chickens from a fertilised egg to a hatchling. The program also provides information about the stages of growth that a chick goes through to become an adult bird, as well as how to manage and care for a healthy and happy chicken. The children were fascinated to watch the chickens hatch from their eggs and start to grow throughout the first week and then during the second week of their visit were able to...

Wildlife Garden
Our Wildlife Garden has really taken shape over the past few months, and after some much needed rain over the summer it is looking amazing and ready for a new school year. With thanks to Bunnings Dural for their donation of plants to put in our wildlife garden and to Katherine from Hawkesbury Land Care Network who came in to help the children plant.

Our New Cubby House
