Montessori Philosophy & Learning Approach
What is the difference between Montessori and mainstream education?
An explanation of the differences can be accessed by visiting Montessori vs Mainstream.
How does a Montessori classroom work?
Children are presented with an orderly environment featuring a variety of concrete, self-correcting activities. These activities progress steadily from simple to complex, and from concrete to abstract.
Why are there 3 to 6-year-olds in the same class?
Composite classrooms are a core element of Montessori education. Older children serve as role models for younger ones, often working with them to review and consolidate concepts they’ve already learned. This process reinforces patience, confidence, and self-esteem.
How do the children learn across all areas if they are allowed to choose their own activities?
Teachers guide children to ensure they explore all learning areas. They provide support and introduce new tasks while giving children the freedom to choose what interests them.
Student Support & Individual Needs
Do you have a gifted and talented program? Can you cater to children with special needs?
We follow the Montessori method, which individualises learning for each child. We welcome children of all abilities and backgrounds.
Do Montessori children transition well into mainstream education?
Yes, Montessori children transition smoothly and are often more settled than their peers from mainstream childcare.
Can my child start if they are not toilet trained?
No, but accidents are understood, and we ask for a change of labelled clothing to be provided.
Why do you recommend children attend for a minimum of 2 years?
The two-year attendance period allows children to progress through the Montessori curriculum, building independence and confidence, preparing them well for primary school.
Staff & School Operations
What are your staff-to-child ratios?
Our staff-to-child ratio is 1:10, in line with regulatory requirements.
What qualifications do your staff have?
Each classroom has an Early Childhood Trained teacher with Montessori training, supported by educators with at least a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Montessori training.
How many weeks are you open?
We are open for approximately 40 weeks over 4 terms. We close for Professional Development Days as per the NSW Department of Education’s allocation.
Do you offer vacation care?
No, we do not offer vacation care.
Do you offer before or after session care?
Yes, care is available from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Enrolment & Starting Ages
At what age can my child commence?
– Parent/Toddler Program: When they are walking independently, usually around 15-18 months.
– Preschool: From 3 years of age. Children need to at least turn 3 during term 1, or are otherwise waitlisted for the following year.
– Kindergarten: The year your child turns 5 on or before 31st July.
When should I enrol my child?
As soon as possible.
Why do you stagger start dates?
Staggering start dates helps children transition smoothly by allowing staff to spend extra time helping new children settle in.
Parent Communication & Involvement
How do I know what my child is doing in the classroom?
Teachers use the Storypark App to share photos of children at work. We offer parents of the pre-school students 1 Parent/Teacher conference per year, and 2 Parent/Teacher conferences per year for the parents of the Kindergarten children.
I have more questions. Who can I contact?
